The Kayula Childhood Cancer Foundation (KCCF) is a Non-governmental Organisation (NGO) in Zambia registered in March 2012 with a mission to "contribute to the wellbeing of children with Cancer and other life threatening blood disorders through non clinical support services for patients, caregivers and strengthening of health systems.
The foundation was created to support the Childhood Cancer Community based at the University Teaching Hospital Paediatric Oncology Ward AO6. KCCF is also a member of the Childhood Cancer International, a network of 180 grass roots and international networks of Parent Organisations in 90 countries spanning 5 continents.
The foundation's organisation structure comprises the Trustees, the Board of Directors, Committee Members and Members of Staff. KCCF also has a database of volunteers who sacrifice their time, effort and money to help KCCF achieve its goals. Our Board members have various professional back grounds, including Engineering, Financial, Medical and Entrepreneurial. We are confident that the Board of Directors will help steer KCCF in the desired direction.
Although a Cancer hospital has been established in Lusaka, many challenges have continued to affect the country's biggest teaching hospital, the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) in Lusaka. Challenges such as:
Is to contribute to the well- being of children with Cancer and life threatening blood disorders through treatment, care and support, through interventions for patients, caregivers and strengthening of healthcare systems.
Is to see an increase in the national survival rate of children with Childhood Cancers
On behalf of the Board of the Kayula Childhood Cancer Foundation (KCCF), I would like to thank our donors, Volunteers, Cancer Diseases Hospital staff at the University Teaching Hospital, and the general public for the support rendered towards the foundation.
KCCF has come a long way in achieving its goals and we would not have done it without you! The continued support sustains the daily operations and the Children afflicted with Cancer and other blood disorders staying at our Parent House. The Parent House serves as a home away from home for many families coming from faraway places.
Raising awareness through various methods is one of our main objectives and a key factor as agreed with the Ministry of Health in our Memorandum of Understanding. Our Big Audacious Hairy Goal is to eventually build our own Children's Oncology Hospital, All this cannot be achieved without the support of our immediate, surrounding and international community.
Let me take this opportunity to call upon all of you to join our efforts and play a key role in the fight against cancer and childhood cancer in particular. We can achieve much more if we build stronger collaboration and concerted effort.
As they say, a problem shared is a problem solved
KCCF Programmes and activities are currently solely dependent on support from the business sector and well-wishers. Most of the financial; resources that KCCF has are once-off or interval donations from business houses and individuals. This has enabled the organisation to meet some of its objectives. We also have fundraising activities throughout the year.
The children at the Parent House engaged in a Continued Educational Programme.
KCCF commemorated the International Childhood Cancer Day (ICCD) which falls every year.
KCCF has also established a parent house that was officially opened to the public in April 2014.
We also have an annual Christmas party at the Paediatric Oncology at the University Teaching Hospital
